Laser Hair Removal: Am I a Good Candidate? What Do I Need to Know?

How Laser Hair Removal works

A laser emits an invisible beam that penetrates the skin around the hair. Because of the dark pigments in the hair, the energy from the laser is absorbed into the hair. The energy from the laser converts into heat, damaging the function of the hair, and the ability for the follicle to grow hair.

Why Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a fast and effective way to remove hair. It can treat large areas rapidly. Over a period of time all the targeted hair becomes deteriorated and the hair ceases to grow.

How often do I have to get the laser hair removal procedure done?

Am I a good candidate for laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal, while safe when done correctly can cause the skin to burn. The energy from the laser is targeted by color. Darker colors attract more of the laser’s energy. This becomes a problem for people who’s skin color is close to the color of their hair. The laser energy is no longer just absorbed into the hair follicle, but is absorbed into the skin as well, which can cause burning, scarring and damage.

The larger the difference or contrast between the color and your skin, the better a candidate you are for laser hair removal.

What areas can I treat with Laser Hair Removal?

Any area on the body is treatable, except for close to the eye area. The most common area are the face, upper lip, chest, periareolar, underarms, back, chest, abdomen, bikini area, and legs.

The difference between Laser hair removal and pulsed light treatment

Pulsed light treatment is not actually a form of laser. Using intense high energy light it produces the same effect as laser hair removal. These devices are harder to adjust to each patient’s skin and hair type and therefore require larger expertise to use than laser hair removal.

Adverse reactions to laser hair removal

The worst case scenario with laser hair removal is damage to the surrounding skin. This can result in pigment changes in the skin. Skin may become lighter or darker. Change in skin color is usually temporary and fades after a few months. The darker one’s skin is the more susceptible they are to adverse reactions when undergoing laser hair removal.

How To Go About Car Detailing On Your Own

Car detailing is an absolute clean up program for your car. Its a perfect sprucing up curriculum and is not just about cleaning, washing and polishing the exterior of the car. It involves a lot of tidying of the interior as well. Routine car detailing is sure to prove beneficial for your car. Every penny you spend for the detailing job (if you go for professional detailing services) and every effort you put in (if you decide to do it on your own) will go on to prevent damages to the vehicle and restore its good looks.

The car detailing job is not all that complicated and you will not need to pick up any special skill or technique for it. The first detailing tip suggested by most car manufacturers and professionals providing car detailing services is to start cleaning from inside. This is essentially a three-step plan involving vacuuming, cleaning and conditioning.

Follow it up with cleaning the car’s windows. Some glass cleaner and a clean towel are what you need to clean the windows. Do not ever use used rags to clean the windows!

Once you have covered the interior, continue with the exterior. Start with the dirtiest part of cars - the wheels. There are two different ways for cleaning the wheels. You may either opt for the most prevalent ’soap and wheel brush method of cleaning’ or go for ’spray on, rinse off’ chemicals. Anyway, whatever be your choice of wheel cleaning method, you need to assure that there is not a speck of salt, dust or debris stuck in the wheel for that can lead to corrosion.

Following the car wash product manufacturer’s directions will give you the maximum satisfaction with washing the car’s body. Give the vehicle a thorough bath and then lather with sponge and soap solution. Always keep in mind to work your way downwards from the top. Rub the body in soft circular motions and rinse off. Soak dry with a soft towel.

Getting down to the polishing job, you can accomplish it with the applicator supplied with the wax or go about it with a damp cotton cloth. Once you have covered the full body, start buffing, again advancing gently.

Some car detailing tips that will help you avoid any damage to the car are:

1)Never go about the detailing job under direct sun or when the vehicle is hot

2)Never use harsh chemical washes, rough clothes and other abrasive kits

Wrap up your car detailing act by cleaning and polishing the headlights and the metallic fittings.

Stoke Your Body’s Furnace With Low Carbohydrate Food

Though there are many different low carbohydrate diet plans, they are based on the same principles. When carbohydrates (such as starches and sugars) are consumed, the body’s blood sugar level rises. To counteract high blood sugar levels, the body releases insulin, which in turn increases fat storage and decreases the body’s ability to burn fat.

When a low carb dieter restricts carbohydrates, his or her blood sugar is only slightly raised, thus preventing excess insulin production. But many low carbohydrate dieters’ hopes are ruined by uncontrollable sweet cravings, hypoglycaemic mood swings, hunger urges and lethargy.

The truth about carbohydrate is that too much carbohydrate provides too many Calories and probably also has certain negative effects on blood glucose and insulin levels. Despite this however, the body must still have a minimum amount of carbohydrate (as glucose) to stay alive.

Although the brain and nervous system normally want the most glucose, these organs can get along without it in a pinch. But that’s not true for certain blood cells and other types of cells. They must have a steady supply of glucose, because without it they’ll quickly die.

For this reason, glucose is so important that your body will begin to make the glucose it needs for these cells out of muscle protein if it doesn’t get enough carbohydrate from food. But, although possible, this is a stressful emergency reaction (called ketosis), which also makes you miserable with hunger, cravings, and many other unpleasant sensations. Obviously, dieting would be much more successful if we could avoid all that.

When your body runs low on any nutrient it needs to stay healthy, it naturally triggers hunger to make you go get it some more of that thing. But if you habitually eat foods that have too little of whatever it’s running low on and too many Calories, you’re going to get fat from this reaction.

Fortunately you can lose the weight again by simply reversing the process. To do so, you learn to eat things that have lots of what your body needs but not many Calories. When you succeed at this your body has no reason to trigger hunger and food cravings even when you’re eating very few Calories and it’s burning excess fat (stored Calories) to make up for this.

This reaction is as true for carbohydrate as it is for each of the other nutrients. If you eat too little carbohydrate, your body will trigger hunger because it needs a minimum amount of glucose every day to supply the cells that can’t use anything else.

If you eat too much carbohydrate, you’ll get fat because too much carbohydrate has both too many Calories and the aforementioned negative effects on blood glucose and insulin levels. So how much is “enough but not too much”? That amount is probably highly variable depending on your lifestyle. A stressful “go-go” day can require a lot of carbohydrate while a relaxed day probably won’t. However, most scientists put the minimum amount of carbohydrate that most people will need in the range of 50-100 grams per day (which is 200-400 Calories from carbohydrate). This is the amount that prevents your body from starting to make glucose out of muscle protein.

Since most food labels list the amount of carbohydrate in the food you eat, tracking and controlling amounts is not difficult. Try to eat in the range of 400 Calories from carbohydrate per day. This will usually prevent the hunger and cravings that are triggered by too little glucose.

There are several other nutrients that also trigger hunger and cravings when you get too little of them - and which must therefore also be managed similarly.

Lo carb diets are all the rage and you can easily see why.
While lowering your carbohydrate intake you thusly have to burn less calories, which means less exercise.

The M-Word (Marketing) Phase 2

Last month we looked at what you need to do before you spend money on marketing brochures, a website, advertising or even go out to network. During Phase 1, it’s all about crafting your message. Key steps include getting clear about your market niche, developing a clear message about how you solve your target clients’ problems, articulating what makes you their best choice, packaging your services so clients will buy, and demonstrating why they should trust you.

Skip Phase 1 and chances are you’ll do a really good job at spreading the wrong message about your firm in the marketplace. Not only is this confusing for prospective clients, it’s a waste of your firm’s time and resources. You can learn more about these crucial steps in last month’s e-newsletter at http://www.turningpointemarketing.com:8080/icms/icms.php/cs/9/Articles.html.

So let’s say you’ve done your Phase 1 homework and are ready to communicate with your marketplace. Where do you start and what should you consider? In Phase 2 you have a number of communication channels to tap, all of which should be working together. The basics include a business card and stationery, a website, a keep-in-touch system (ideally an e-newsletter, but a paper version works too), perhaps printed materials or leave behinds, a core set of articles and other freebies, and a basic talk you can give (i.e., at an industry networking event, local conference, or Chamber of Commerce event).

At a minimum, you need business cards/stationery, a website, and a valuable article or two to demonstrate your expertise. If you don’t have these tools, you’re going to have a hard time establishing credibility and differentiating yourself in today’s marketplace.

This month, let’s focus on the most important of these tools: a solid website. Much more than an electronic brochure, a well-done website can do a lot of the marketing “heavy lifting” if you couple it with a smart online/offline strategy to get people to visit your site. Done right, here’s what a website can do for you:

* Build relationships. Marketing your professional service firm is about creating and sustaining a trust-based relationship with your intended and current clients. A good website and online promotion strategy can do just that, without requiring more of you precious billable hours to be present in your clients’ and prospects lives.

* Tap new markets. Why do clients come to you in the first place? Is it because they have a real problem, an immediate need, and no choice but to hire you? What if you could tap a less crisis-driven, more pro-active market that provided you with more predictable and longer-term cash flow? Amazingly, an integrated online/offline marketing strategy, centered around your website can do that for you.

* Accelerate your sales cycle. By the time someone calls you, chances are they’ve already visited your website. With the right online approach, you can increase a prospect’s confidence that your firm is the right one to call, reduce the number of unqualified prospects, encourage a “call to action,” and begin a long-term relationship.

* Stay in sight and top of mind. The adage, “out of sight is out of mind” is true, even in business. There is simply no guarantee that an existing client will return to your firm the next time they need similar services. Too many variables and influences can intercede, particularly if a lot of time passes between needs. Your website and online strategy can painlessly bridge the gap between more time consuming, “off-line” keep-in-touch activities (i.e., phone calls, direct mail, customer surveys) that are often hard to carve out time to do and expensive to implement.

* Turbocharge your business development efforts. A well-constructed website can be the “hub” of your firm’s presence in the marketplace. Ideally, your website is the first place prospects go when they learn about your firm through a referral, while networking, in the press, or perhaps a direct mail piece. Once they’re on your site, you can educate them, build their loyalty and confidence, demonstrate your results, and motivate them to take action…all for a fraction of the time, energy, and money these things require off-line.

* Manage your marketing dollars more wisely. Wouldn’t it be great if you could tell which off-line marketing activities pay off and which ones don’t? With the right approach, you can do just that, using your website - and underlying technology - as a tool for “measured marketing.” You’ll never have to wonder if the money you spend on direct mail, networking, or publicity is really worth it again - you’ll know for sure!

For specific tips on what to consider in developing (or upgrading to) a website that really works, keep reading…

The money you spend on a website and promotional strategy is only as good as the work they do for you to turn “surfers” into real clients. For a website that works hard and gets results, here’s what to consider.

1) Function over form. There are plenty of visually appealing websites that fall far short of what clients and prospects are really looking for. When someone visits your site, they want it to…

* load quickly

* be easy to read

* be easy to navigate (i.e., no mysterious icons or images that represent links)

* provide a range of compelling information (not everyone will read it all, but everyone is attracted and motivated by different things - so you’ve got to offer it all)

* make it easy to contact you

* not distract or waste their time with unnecessary effects

* be easy to print out

* teach them something they didn’t know

* motivates them to do something (i.e., sign up for your e-newsletter, download an article)

Graphic design is a very important element of any website, but it should not be what drives content, navigation, and usability. At most, it should weigh in equally with content and navigation.

2) Long, well-written copy sells. Believe it or not, if what you say speaks to your target audience in language that’s about them, their problems, their world, and their needs, they’ll read a lot more than you’d think. The key, though, is that what you say has got to be about them, not your firm - at least not initially.

Most professional service firms break this rule…and end up sounding alike. Differentiate your firm by writing website content that speaks to your clients’ worldview, not yours. Educate them, motivate them, soothe them, convince them, inform them, and move them to action.

3) Load up on value. Give visitors to your site a reason to stick around and to “bookmark” your site because it’s so darned valuable. Increase their knowledge and help them feel competent every time they go to your site, and they’ll fall in love with your firm. Ironically, the more you share about what you know, the more people are drawn to your work and will trust that your services are highly valuable, and worth every penny they pay.

4) Integrate online with off-line. Think about how you get new clients now - word of mouth? Referrals? Networking? A letter of introduction? Quoted in the press? Usually it’s through off-line activities. While you’re at it, invite people to visit your website and let it do the initial relationship-building work for you. Follow up an initial introduction with an email link to your site and an invitation to subscribe to your firm’s free e-newsletter. Attach an article you’ve written that specifically addresses the concern they approached you about. Follow up with a phone call to see if they got the article and continue your conversation.

Maybe you get a new client right away, but if not, you keep in touch through your monthly e-newsletter that reminds them of how valuable you are, and drive them back to new content on your website. Before you know it, you do have a new client, and a lot of the work was done by your great website.

Even if your firm has a website, take a look at how hard it works for you. Remember, marketing is about creating and sustaining a relationship with your target audience and current clients. Leverage the power of a well-crafted website and promotional strategy, and that process gets a lot easier!

Maniac Investment

Let’s first understand what maniac
means. According to Webster a maniac is “mad;
raging with madness; raging with disordered
intellect”. You don’t know anyone like that, do
you?

There is a book that is still in
print today that was originally published in
1841 with the title Extraordinary and Popular
Delusions of Crowds by Charles Mackay. He
explains in rather horrific detail how people
were caught up in the madness of buying property
in the South Seas in 1720, the numismatic coin
craze of 1980 and the tulip bulb trading in
1637. You wonder how people could have been so
gullible to have bought a single tulip bulb or
land they would never see for huge amounts of
money. Could anything like this ever happen
again?

I was floor trader on the commodity
exchange in 1973 when the Hunt brothers drove
silver from $2.00 per ounce to $54. That mania
lasted a few months and quickly tanked to $6.00.
I took part in that mania. I was one of the
maniacs.

When it was taking place it seemed
like the thing to do and very few questioned the
sanity of those participating. In fact, if you
weren’t part of the crowd there was something
wrong with you. When there is a stampede it is
best to run with the herd or be trampled to
death. However, there were a few who were not
mesmerized.

Today we are participating in one of
those manias only now it is called a bubble and
still is not being taken too seriously. Yes, it
is the stock market mania. Many are still
trapped in the madness of the crowd of the
1990’s who believe the “market always comes
back”. They are clutching their tulip bulbs,
sorry, stock certificates, and refuse to let go
of them because they know their value will grow
back to what it was 3 years ago. Stock owners
have become mad with what - greed? fear? denial?

When something, almost anything,
drops 50% in price it will take a 100% increase
in value to get back to “even”. With today’s
economic and world conditions that could be a
long time and maybe not in our lifetime.

Years ago I heard a story about how
they used to catch monkeys. A small hole just
big enough for the monkey to slip his empty hand
inside would be drilled in a coconut and candy
and fruit would be put in it. The coconut was
tied to a stake in the ground. When the monkey
grabbed a fistful of goodies he would not let go
even when the hunter came for him. Greed holds
him in an invisible grip.

Many investors today are like those
monkeys. They refuse to sell what is remaining
of the stocks and mutual funds they own even
though they can clearly see the major trend
continues down. They became mad with greed and
now fear of loss entraps them.

Until this madness is recognized
investors will continue to see their portfolios
become smaller and smaller. They must learn to
let go.

Written 3/10/03 but still applies today.

Ten Ways to Handle a Customer Complaint

Most professionals take pride in the work they do. Dealing with complaints is often challenging and upsetting. It is very natural to try to explain or justify what was done. The suggestions I have made in this list are not easy to do in the heat of a situation. So when you hear a complaint about you or your business/practice perhaps the best strategy is to count to ten and then do some of the following:

1. Listen - Resist the temptation to argue with the client. Instead ask questions to get to the bottom of the situation. What is the client really upset about? Show the client that you really understand the situation from the client’s perspective.

2. Don’t be defensive - This will get in the way of your listening to the client. Allow the client the time and space to be heard. If you get defensive you’ll build a wall between you and the client. Try to find ways to build a bridge so that you are aligned with the client.

3. If you agree that it was a mistake, fix it immediately or do what you can to satisfy the client and apologize. We all make mistakes at times. Check to see if there is anything in your office procedure that can help you to avoid a similar mistake again.

4. For a more complex issue research the problem before you make any decisions. Find out what actually happened. Is a system in your office not working correctly? Does it need to be fixed? Has the client misunderstood something? Give yourself time to figure out a fair resolution.

5. Look for lessons in the situation - If the situation was caused by something you or your staff control, find a way to fix it for the future. This means assessing the systems you have in place and your methods and procedures. It also may mean retraining an employee or employees.

6. Reeducate the client when necessary - How did you set client’s expectations? Were you clear about what he/she could expect? Help the client to understand the process now to guard against future misunderstandings.

7. Know that if one client complained there are others feeling the same way. What do you need to do to address the problem with the others? Who else might have been affected in the same way?

8. Give the client choice of possible resolutions. How can you make this right with the client? Negotiate a way that works for both of you. Sometimes just fixing the problem is sufficient. At other times the client is looking for something else. Look for an equitable resolution.

9. Thank the client for helping you with your business. As painful as they can be complaints from clients often let you know exactly where you need to work to improve your practice/business.

10. Follow up with those who complained to be sure they are fully satisfied. If you have altered a system or changed a way of doing business and the client is affected by that change, follow up to be sure that the client noted the change.

Parents Online Safety

By taking responsibility for your children’s online activities, parents can greatly minimize any potential risks. In today’s electronic age teaching your children about online safety is a must. Even if you think your child does not have access to the internet, these rules are important because internet access is everywhere!

1. Never give out identifying information: address, school name, or telephone number.

2. Get to know the websites your child uses. Have your child show you what he or she does online.

3. Never allow a child to arrange a face-to-face meeting with another computer user. If a meeting is arranged, make it in a public place, and accompany your child.

4. Never respond to messages that are suggestive, obscene, or make you feel uncomfortable. Encourage your child to tell you if he/she encounter such messages.

5. Set rules and guidelines for internet use by your children.

6. Monitor your children’s compliance with your rules.

7. Learn more about out blocking, filtering, and content ratings.

8. Consider keeping the computer in a family room rather than the child’s bedroom.

9. Get to know your child’s online friends, just as you would all of their other friends.

10. Post these rules near the computer as a reminder.

Find more rules located at http://www.myfirstbra.us/online_safety_for_girls.htm.

Affordable Health Insurance

Finding affordable health insurance is possible, there are many companies that will help you to find health insurance that will meet your requirements and stay within your budget. The fact is that many people simply do not know where to look for health insurance. Connecting with a company that is capable of hunting down health insurance providers can take the hassle out of buying health insurance. For individuals who do not want to use a company to locate affordable health insurance there is the Internet.

Thousands of people in the United States simply go without health insurance because they think they cannot find affordable health insurance. This would explain why there are many individuals in the United States who choose to go without health insurance. Those who do not have health insurance will be less likely to visit a doctor. This means that a lot of times illness and other ailments are not diagnosed until they have developed.

There are numerous different things that will determine what your monthly health insurance will be. Your health insurance rates will change depending upon the kind of policy you have. For example, do you only need health insurance for yourself, or your entire family? The answer will have an impact on any quotes you receive. Are you young, or are you in your senior years? Most health insurance companies adjust your premium based upon your age. Are you self-employed, or are you receiving health insurance through your work? This will also affect the cost of your health insurance.

You never know when an accident might happen and you need a trip to hospital for stitches or a broken bone. These bills will add up quickly but if you have health insurance, you can get the help you need without the worry of receiving a huge bill. If you can’t afford to pay off your medical bills, your credit rating could even suffer. If you have health insurance, you can prevent these problems from ever happening and your credit will be protected for your financial future and your health.

Another way you can make sure that your insurance rates are lowered is to increase the amount of your health insurance deductible. High deductibles equal lower monthly premiums. Anyone that has existing health problems which require extensive medical treatment may find it necessary to have a higher monthly premium.

Simply by researching health insurance options online and spending just a couple of hours searching may well save you money every month. Get a variety of quotes from insurance companies which meet your health and budget needs and you will find affordable health insurance. You may also find that purchasing health insurance online can save you money.
