Getting Fit before Touring Gives Better Results and Reduces Accidents

Every year it’s the same narrative. Despite jogging to work, and an irregular hike, each skiing season kicks off enduring those torture some 1st few hikes during which one is left behind in the wake of junior and better skiing buddies. It’s enough to ruin my skiing holiday.

Being not match fit whilst skiing it is awful, and may be downright perilous. To descend one needs to have some surplus capacity. If you are a tired skier you are more likely to have injuries and weariness can be a contributory factor to accidents, such as crashes and avalanches.

Surely there is a nicer manner in which to start the skiing season, and a freshly released 304 page guide from Faustino Lane appears to offer a resolution. While directed at climbers the information is largely practical to ski touring, with its energetic scrambles besides other hobbies.

Cycling, training for top results is adequately researched and a good read. It’s a quality comprehensive book which assembles some poignant research. You could evolve a particular cardiovascular regime or tweak your current programme. Given that it is written for climbers, so some of the info will be irrelevant for skiing, it’s definitely an account to acquire if you prefer to do some of the long day or multi-day routes.

Inspiration: The Power of One

It was one of those once-in-a-life-time moments. The entire
World celebrated Christmas Eve, 1968, by sitting glued to
television sets. Apollo 8 was in Moon orbit, broadcasting
first-ever, live television shots of the Moon’s surface. Man
had yet to set foot on the Moon, so this Moon orbit was
truly an historic moment.

On board the spacecraft, three American astronauts, Frank
Borman, James Lovell Jr. and William Anders, gave a Christmas
greeting to earthbound viewers, and spoke briefly of their mission.
The onboard camera was then focused on the view outside the
cabin window.

There it was, the surface of the Moon, close-up like you had
never seen it before. Then one of the astronauts, Frank Borman,
did a most amazing thing…

As spellbound viewers watched the surface of the moon moving
slowly across their TV screens, Frank Borman began reading
from the Book of Genesis, “In the beginning, God created the
heavens and the earth…”

As Borman read, goose bumps crawled up and down my spine.
It may seem humdrum today, but back in 1968 this broadcast
triggered a stillness around the world like no one had felt
before. It was a moment many will never forget.

While at work a few days later, I overheard a news broadcast
reporting Madalyn Murray O’Hare, the infamous atheist, had filed
a complaint with NASA (National Aeronautics and Space
Administration), complaining of the televised reading of scripture.
The report went on to say she intended to put a stop to reading
of scripture in space over government radios.

This was the same woman who single-handedly managed to get
prayer banned in public schools. Now here she was again, rearing
her ugly will upon the people. I was incensed. But even before that
newscast was over, I remember saying aloud, “Over my dead body.”

Then and there I did something that would effect the outcome
of my entire life. I made a decision to begin a petition drive in
opposition to O’Hare. I quickly typed out a simple statement
endorsing the astronauts’ actions and brought it around to
my co-workers to sign.

My plan was to make 5 copies of the petition and send one
each to NASA, the town library where I lived, both Houses
of Congress, and the President of the United States.

With about 100 signatures in hand, I went around my
neighborhood after work and collected about 50 more.
I was excited and was on a mission. But I needed more
signatures. That’s when my father-in-law suggested I go
to the night editor of the local newspaper for help. He told
me they are always looking for human-interest stories.
Maybe they would print mine.

So after supper that night I went to the paper. I remember the
man I first spoke to yelling back to another gentleman saying,
“Hey, Charlie, here’s our answer to Madalyn O’Hare!”

The next day went by as usual…until I got home after work.
When I walked into the kitchen, there my wife and mother-
in-law were, sitting at the kitchen table with papers scattered
around. My mother-in-law, who was on the phone, looked up
and gave me one of her “you’ve really done it this time” looks.
Then she said, “Here, take it. This phone has done nothing
but ring all day.”

And that is how my petition drive got airborne. Without my
knowing it, my story was picked up by newswire services
and went worldwide.

The phone never quit ringing. Have you ever had the phone
to ring in the same moment you disconnected the call?
Well that is how it was for eight solid hours. It never quit.
We had to disconnect the phone from the wall to keep
it from ringing throughout the night while asleep.

I received calls from all around the world, literally. People
far and wide wanted copies of my petition. They wanted
to help gather signatures.

My family and I were in shock at the massive response
that was pouring in. It was only the beginning.

Within a week, the mailman was delivering five and six
large duffel bags of mail a day to our doorstep. It was
overwhelming, and I didn’t know what to do or how to
proceed. Mailbags were piling up by the dozens.
I remember we all prayed because this had become
more than my family or I could handle.

Then one day after work, NASA called me. A kindly gentleman
said he represented a group of employees at NASA calling
themselves the Apollo Prayer Group. They met regularly within
NASA to pray for the success of each mission. They had heard
of my petition and wanted to know if they could be of any help.

The NASA prayer group offered to take up the cause of my
petition, make 5 microfilm copies of each page and see to
it that all five copies were sent to where I wanted them to go.
Their call was most welcome and verified for me that this
was the answer to our prayer.

In the end, some five million signatures were gathered,
copies made and sent per my request. Madalyn Murray
O’Hare dropped her law suit, and Congress passed a law
that guarantees the right of reading the Bible aloud in space
over NASA radio frequencies.

Two years later I learned I had been invited to NASA to
attend a banquet in my honor. Not only would the Apollo
8 astronauts be in attendance, Senator Everet Dirkson
of Illinois was to speak and honor me for my actions.
Unfortunately, my job had moved me three times, and
I never learned of the NASA banquet until after the fact.

From this one event in my life I learned
several life-changing lessons.

1. We are born to greatness:

At the time I was in my middle 20’s and naive. I didn’t know
any better to think I could fail. Failure wasn’t an option.
I simply saw myself defeating this ugly spirited person
and did!

Now I know why I could defeat her. We are created in God’s
image. Translated into street language, that means we are
born to do great things.

Looking back, that whole event has shaped every decision
I have made since. There is a boldness within me to this
day that allows me to make decisions and act in ways
that many people simply will not.

In walking around my neighborhood to obtain petition
signatures, I met a woman who was afraid to sign my
petition. She told me she feared communists taking over
our country one day. “When they do,” She said, “they will
use lists like the one I have to persecute people.”

What a shame it must be to live like this person…being
motivated by intimidation and fear.

You see, our ability to achieve success, though God given,
is tempered day by day through our experiences and thoughts.
We can change our ability to become achievers by changing
our perception of ourselves.

Once you begin to see yourself as God created you, there
is nothing that can hold you back. Jesus would say, “If you
have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this
mountain. ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move.
Nothing will be impossible for you”

2. Timing is everything to move the masses:

When I listened to that radio newscast about Madalyn O’Hare,
I didn’t know about timing. All I felt was anger and determination
to stop her cold. But then so did many other people. It was the
right time. All that was needed was someone to ignite the spark
of resistance. I provided a way for them to speak out, to have a
part in history.

3. People are motivated by causes:

I was uninvolved and minding my own business back in 1968.
It wasn’t until my anger was stirred and brought to cause that I
became involved. And so it was for five million others who
signed that petition.

4. There will always be others willing to help:

Just when I thought I was overwhelmed with petition requests,
NASA called me to offer help. I didn’t need to be asked twice.

5. The Power of One is the seed to produce a great harvest:

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would collect five million
signatures in a petition drive, but it happened.

I like to use the example of a corn seed (I live in corn country).
When I consider how many bushels can be harvested from
the kernels of just one ear of corn, it amazes me.

So this is what I have learned from that one experience back in
1968. Take a child of God (greatness), give them an opportunity
(timing and cause) and you have the ingredients to do the
impossible…to change our world.

You have the power of one. In you lies the seed of greatness.
God has granted this to you by right of birth. Let me encourage
you to claim this birthright. To His Glory.

Online shopping Tips - Coupon Codes For Beginners

I’M sure the majority of us remember our mommies opening up those catalogs or newspapers on those Sunday mornings , clipping those coupons like kids opening up Christmas gifts .

For every coupon my mom would clip she would pause and smile , she would then turn to me and whisper ” shop like mommy and save all the time ” (LOL)

Today mind you , its still a great way to save and im sure more than half of us still clip coupons from catalogs whenever we can .

but with the Internet things are changing , every year more and more people are shopping online , and as the retailing business grows online , prices are dropping dramatically because of the competition .

Smart shoppers are noticing that shopping online is not only convenient but can save you lots of money .

So how do smart shoppers shop ?

Most smart shoppers use online coupons called coupon codes , these are numeric digits that are entered on a merchants site at checkout to receive a discount .

They also keep a list of their favorite stores and wait patiently for their promotional offers or blowout sales in order to save that extra 10 to sometimes 75% off regular prices and in addition they use coupon codes for extra savings ..

Now the tricky part is finding these coupon codes , many online merchants do not advertise discount coupon codes on their site, I don’t think they want all their customers using coupon codes for discounts .

Here are four ways to find coupon codes .

1) One way to find a stores coupon online is by emailing the the merchant , most of them will take forever to email you back but some of them will , ( its worth a try )

2) you can find lots of printable coupons and coupon codes by hanging around shopping forums whereas you can trade coupons and deals .

3) download or order that particular stores catalog online if they have , most of them are free and many times you’ll find coupon codes and promotional offers .

4) there are also some sites online that spend their days looking for coupons and they post them for free , if you find a site that has free discount coupons ” BOOKMARK THEM ” and try to find more sites that provide the same service .

Everytime you shop online always make sure theres no coupon codes lingering online for that particular store you want to shop .

Coupon codes are great savings . Use them whenever and however you can .

You too can shop like mommy and save all the time (lol)

Get Your Business Ahead By Spending Less - Buy Refurbished Laptops Instead

Is your competition shooting straight at you? Get ahead by updating old equipment and buy refurbished laptops. If your competitors are blazing their guns and aiming right at your business then you have two choices:

1)Fall down and die
2)Climb to the top where the bullets cannot hit you!

Whatever you do in business you need computer equipment. Mobile computers help you stay in front by getting to your customers first. Can your competitors beat you to the punch? If they can then you have to get moving. Laptops, palm pilots, wireless internet, and these types of mobile equipment can help you get to the top and stay there.

Ever watch the movie “King Kong?” Towards the end of the movie Kong climbs the tall building. The planes came in and shot at him until he died and fell all the way to the ground. Picture you as King Kong and your competitors are the airplanes. They are shooting at you because you are on top of your world. You must climb higher than they can fly, or grab them right out of the air and throw them to the ground.

You cannot do this if you have no, or outdated computer equipment. The reason is technology moves at the speed of light and if your small business is relying on an old desktop computer you may want to consider getting mobile. Getting out and reaching your audience and customers before anyone else does is key to your success.

You can offer quicker response, get in touch faster and win the trust of your customers and at the same time climbing so high above your competitors their bullets do not even reach you.

Refurbished laptops and palm pilots offer a savings of up to 60% off the retail price and perform as well as a new one. Get out there and get your business moving again. Just a quick reminder that all your computer equipment needs are a tax write off. That is correct, refurbished laptops can be deducted from your overall business expense. You can save even more.

Laptops have many abilities. You can connect to the internet using several methods. Dial-up from a land line, or you can also use an adapter cord to use a cell phone. DSL and cable internet is also possible. Simply uses a modem and you are off. The other method is Wi Fi or wireless internet. Find a hot spot and connect to the world wide web.

The possibilities are almost endless, but one key to your business is getting ahead and staying ahead. The world is a big place and you have to think big. Get out of the office and see what a new perspective can bring.

Online Crazy Deals wants to make your business a success. We specialize in mobile computing and can help you get ahead of your competition. Online Crazy Deals

Arranging Stepping-Stones

The greatest achievements were obtained by those who took one step after the next. They resolved to succeed, and moved little by little toward a worthwhile goal.

Temporary obstacles in one situation are very often stepping stones to remarkable blessings. Be grateful even for setbacks, for each contains the seed of an equal or greater blessing.

By infusing your thoughts with love and faith, you will build the tenacity and spiritual fitness needed to meet every obstacle with resolve. You will greet each morning with anticipation. Your God-given purpose will sparkle in your eyes and fill your heart with authentic joy.

Even the most mundane tasks can be viewed as small stepping stones on a far-reaching journey. Like small brushstrokes in a beautiful painting, each small action will contribute to its perfection; craft each one with care and excellence.

Our stepping stones, arranged carefully, place us in an advantageous position for moving forward. They become part of a pathway filled with beautiful rewards today and tomorrow.

Ask yourself: What are the stepping stones I can see now that could lead toward my goals? How can I best arrange them so that my next step brings me nearer to my desired achievements?

It doesn’t matter if the stream is narrow or wide. Your goal may be attainable next week or seem years beyond the horizon. There is always that first stepping-stone to start you on the journey.

Faith places every stepping stone within reach. May the love and faith in your heart illuminate the path before you today. Step forward, and you’ll be on your way!

The Finer, and Finest, Things in Life

In America, we have a saying: The finer things in life. These are the things that most people talk about when they are speaking of thing of high quality. In fact, much of that which propels people to pursue success, particularly financial success, is the desire to participate in the finer things in life.

Let’s face it, increased finances enable us to do more things and enjoy things that we otherwise would not be able to afford. And we should consider that a blessing.

I am at a stage where my wife and I, and our kids, can enjoy some of the finer things in life. It hasn’t always been that way. I think sometimes it is best to have to go years of getting by so that we appreciate more fully the finer things in life when we are able to experience them. I am thankful for where I am.

Who can argue of the beauty of a fine painting? Who doesn’t love the smell and feel of leather furniture? Who doesn’t enjoy driving a well-engineered car? Who doesn’t dream of the softness and warmth of a Cashmere sweater? Who doesn’t like a nice watch that can be passed on the your son or daughter someday? All of these are common symbols of the finer things in life, and indeed they are.

There is only one possible pitfall that I have found in the pursuit of the finer things in life. It is common that many fall into this trap. It is this:

While pursuing the finer things in life, we often become so engrained, so focused in the pursuit, that we do not experience the finest things in life.

You see, for the most part, the finer things in life, as commonly defined, cost money. And usually it takes a lot of time working to make the kind of money that enables us to experience the finer things in life. And in the pursuit of the money to enjoy the finer things in life, we are spending so much time that we are missing regular opportunities to enjoy the finest things in life.

Let me tell you of a recent experience. A couple of weeks ago I took my son, age 9, down to see some spring training baseball in Phoenix, Arizona. This was our second trip down together and we hope to make it an annual tradition. We popped down just for three days to see three games (Boy the Seattle Mariners are looking good this year! But I digress…)

The first game we saw was against the California Angels in their spring training facility in Tempe. There we sat waiting for the game to start. Now let me assure you, this was not an experience of the finer things in life. It was actually a little chilly out, though the sun was shining. We were sitting on relatively hard seats, and my cuisine consisted of peanuts and a diet-Pepsi. Hmmmmm.

But do you know what I found myself thinking? “There is no place else in the world I would rather be right now.”

I was spending time with my boy, doing something we would both enjoy, and creating memories that will never go away. This, my friends, was one of the finest things in life.

What are the finest things of life in my book? Here are a few. You can see where I am going and name a few yourself.

Reading a novel just for the fun of it.

A casual stroll along the beach with nowhere to go.

An extra half-hour at the coffee shop, catching up with friends and actually tasting the great flavor of a cup of coffee, rather than rushing it.

A game of crazy eights with my kids.

A quiet evening out with my wife.

A Saturday afternoon sleeping on the couch in front of the fire.

And the list goes on…

Are you taking enough time to stop and taste of the finest things in life? Or are you so bent on getting to a point wherein you can experience the finer things in life?

I have a saying that “good is the enemy of the best.” Sometimes the finer things of life get in the way of the finest things in life. Sometimes we settle for the finer things in life when we could be enjoying the finest things in life.

Visa has a series of new advertisements out right now. They would go something like this (describing a vacation): Airline tickets: $1500. Hotel room: $1200. The smile on her face: Priceless.

We can always put a value on the finer things in life, and I would encourage you to enjoy them if you can. But the finest things in life are priceless. You can put no value or price tag on them. It is a mandate that we take the time to enjoy them.

Take some time this week to live up to the old saying: Stop and smell the roses. You will never regret it.

Digital Photography Histogram - The Unbearable Lightness Of Your Image Exposed

The digital photography histogram is a handy tool to ensure your pictures are light and color balanced, and is well worth the effort of learning how to interpret and use it.

Some cameras show the digital photography histogram in real time, allowing you to make adjustments as you go along.

What is a digital photography histogram? A histogram will show if there is enough detail in the shadow, midtone and highlight areas of your image, and importantly, whether or not your picture is overexposed.

The digital photography histogram indicates how the 256 levels of brightness are distributed in an image. Compare it to a horizontal line with 256 positions which represent all levels of brightness from pure black on the left, to pure white on the right.

It consists of a little graph which indicates hills, valleys and spikes of data according to the number of data pixels present for a given level of brightness. If your picture generally has low contrast, the pixels will cluster in the midtone (grey) area of a digital photography histogram.

An image with high contrast will have high stacks of pixels on the opposite ends of the graph, with fewer in the midtone area.

An overexposed image will show a lot of pixel data stacked on the far right side of the graph (lots of white). If you have most data on the left, and a big space to the right of your data, your picture is likely underexposed.

If you are new to the concept of the digital photography histogram, it takes a bit of time to interpret, but you will soon begin to see how the graph relates to your pictures.

For example, the digital photography histogram of an outside picture with a lot of dark sky and little color variation in the rest of the picture, will show a strong spike on the left (dark sky) and a low horizontal bar all the way to the right, indicating little variation in light intensity.

In overexposure you lose data that you can’t get back - even in Photoshop! Many photographers would argue that it is better to underexpose slightly. You can then correct a good deal of underexposure in an imaging program like Photoshop. It lets you distribute the lightness values of pixels more evenly across the spectrum from black to white.

Do you need the digital photography histogram? Many photographers never look at a histogram, but just view the images to check for exposure.

You will find that you are able to analyze your pictures in greater detail, and even to correct them afterwards in an imaging program like Photoshop, once you have mastered the digital photography histogram!

Shocking Facts about Updating Your PC Operating System

From “ignorance is bliss” to “surprise attack and disaster” - how
many thousands of Internet users have experienced this
frustration and grief?

This raises the obvious question: “Why haven’t they prepared to
avoid it?”

The startling fact is that there are many long term Internet users
who have never even considered updating their Operating
Systems and protective Safe-ware.

Perhaps the complexity of it all contributes to what might be
described as User apathy - or indifference and a lack of enthusiasm
toward the following:

* The news of yet another vulnerability or patch process.

* The potential damage to computer, personal information and
reputation - i.e. the “It can’t happen to me” attitude.

* Their own abilities - i.e. “I’m too old, too dumb, too whatever - to
learn how to fix a computer without breaking something.”

* Updating - i.e. “My computer came with an anti-virus program, so
why does it need to be updated now?”

The sad fact is that the lack of confidence people have in their
ability to build a defense often leads to a reluctance to even accept
the reality of Cyber Threats.

Some of the lesser-experienced Internet users rationalize their
lack of action with pessimism, even defeatism. Human nature often
supports these excuses with defensive attitudes and mis-beliefs
like:

* False sense of disaster support - “My nephew, neighbor, son or
whoever, is a computer whizz. They’ll be able to fix the problem if
anything ever happens.”

* Scepticism - “All this talk about viruses is just so the “news
people” will have information for publishing, and so the software
manufactureres can scare people into buying more of their
products.”

* Ignorance (of the extent of deception, skills and sophistication
that the malicious hackers have attained).

* Disbelief (that personal computer might be infected and used by
others to spread malicious viruses and worms). “My computer
seems to be working ok - a little slow, maybe, but it is getting
pretty old.”

* Overwhemed (too many choices with firewalls, anti-virus, anti-
spam, anti-spyware, Trojan removers). “Why do I need all of these
and which ones should I use?” or “Do I really need to update my
Operating System, my anti virus, spam, spyware stuff?”…I’ll just
never learn how to do all of this.

* Expense (How much will all this cost and is it really necessary?)

* Fatalism - “Hey, if it’s going to happen, it will, and I’ll just junk my
computer and get another one. Mine’s getting kind of old,
anyway.”

Here, then, are the Shocking facts about updating PC Operating
Systems.

There are many unaware Internet users who have been online for
years, but lack in these ares:

* They don’t know what “Updating” really means.

* They have never responded to the popup message associated
with the icon in the Task tray that announces new Windows
Updates.

* They have never clicked on the Windows Update icon in the
Program Start menu.

* They have never visited the Microsoft Windows Update web
page at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

* They have never updated their PC Operating Systems.

Even if they have been able to navigate to the Microsoft Update
webpage, many just throw up their hands in despair at the
overwhelming number of choices and unknowns, such as:

* Choosing what to update from the long list of options.

* Waiting for Windows to check the registry for available updates.

* Deciphering the Update descriptions (and instructions).

* Selecting or Removing the necessary options.

* Starting the download.

And oftentimes, many people have never even used the Windows
Help information to find out how to update their computer
Operating Systems.

How many self taught or untrained computer users are going to
persevere through all of the hassle described above? Is it any
wonder so many computers become infected? The criminal Hackers
building their bot and zombie armies have nearly an open and
undefended playing field; many are using it every day to steal
money and identities.

So, what is the solution to this problem?

If individuals with computer “understanding” would help and assist
others with less knowledge, there would probably be less of a
problem.

Nearly everyone who has faithfully kept their PC Operating
Systems and Safe-ware up to date surely has family members and
friends who could benefit from an hour or so of basic instructions.
This would make it much more difficult for the criminal Hackers to
compromise another persons computer.

Hacker’s would eventually be faced with a growing number of
adequately protected computers, educated Users and hopefully
would finally give-up trying!
