Stephen grew up in surburban Philadelphia. He went on to graduate from Yale University in 1969. Harvard Business School near Boston was the next step in his education, where he received his MBA in 1972. Then Stephen began his career in earnest with Lehman Brothers investment bank, based in Manhattan. By the very young age of thirty one, he was already one of their managing directors. Not only does Stephen offer his time and money to a wide range of not-for-profit organizations, but additionally he has also served as a part-time professor at Yale. Furthermore, he is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the JFK Center for the Performing Arts in Manhattan. On top of all that, he proudly announced in the spring of 2008 that he was gifting $100 million to the New York Public Library to sponsor their expansion project.
