What Is a Hard Drive and What Do They Do

HDDs (introduced in 1956 as data storage for an IBM accounting computer) were originally developed for use with general purpose computers. In the 21st century, applications for HDDs have expanded to include digital video recorders, digital audio players, personal digital assistants, digital cameras and video game consoles. In 2005 the first mobile phones to include HDDs were introduced by Samsung and Nokia. The need for large-scale, reliable storage, independent of a particular device, led to the introduction of embedded systems such as RAID arrays, network attached storage (NAS) systems and storage area network (SAN) systems that provide efficient and reliable access to large volumes of data.

Also, due to a complete absence of moving parts, SSDs have greatly increased longevity and reliability. The downside to these drives, despite all their amazing benefits, are very high cost per megabyte of capacity, and their low capacity. It is unfortunate that both these traits are what will really stop a consumer from adopting a technology that is superior. There can be no doubt that SSD is the future, but that future is assuredly not now. However, in light of the low capacities and high prices, the technology still has enough merit to be featured in new notebooks arriving in 2007. Reduced power consumption, reduced heat and a long battery life spells great success for this technology in the mobile arena.

Working With Seo Is Unique Technology For Web Promotion

In my journey to learning how to build web pages that search engines favor of discovered a couple things along the way.

On the first things I learned was that content is king. Does this mean? It means that the better your content the better chance you have of the search engines ranking your site higher.

But unfortunately this alone won’t do it. For seo to work a bunch of other things need to be in place as well.

Your site must have link backs coming in from other sites primarily from authority sites or high ranking pages.

Your site must be keyword saturated to about 3%. Your site must be on a topic that a lot of people are looking for.

There’s something about the word search engine optimization technology that really strikes a cord when it comes to marketing on the Internet.

If you’ve never heard the term seo before then you probably have not been marketing on the Internet very long, as search engine optimization is all about Internet marketing and vice versa.

When we think about it, the search engines are holding all the cards when it comes to searches, that’s just simply what they do.

If we want to get some of that traffic funneled to our website we simply have to follow the rules of the search engine.

By optimizing your website both on-site and off-site you bring your page into alignment with the search engine code of quality.

Yahoo! Sitemaps: Text or XML Format?

Back in September 2005, I published an article titled “Introducing Yahoo! Sitemaps” which explained how to submit a complete list of your URL’s to Yahoo! using a standard text file.

Recently however, I’ve received a couple of emails plus heard a few rumours stating that Yahoo! does not recognize a standard text file (e.g. sitemap.txt) containing a list of your site’s URL’s. These emails and rumours suggest that this file should be in HTML, XML or contain Tags.

Just to clarify…

Unlike Google Sitemaps which accepts Sitemaps in XML (Extensible Markup Language — a widely used standard for textual information exchange between applications on the Internet), Yahoo! uses a simplified version… a text file that contains a list of your site’s URL’s. Google also accepts this format in place of XML.

When creating this file, it should contain ONLY a list of your URL’s, with one URL per line… nothing more. If you have a site with hundreds or even thousands of pages, Yahoo! also recognizes compressed versions of this file (e.g. sitemap.gz).

So for example, the contents of your text file will look like this:

http://www.yoursite.com/
http://www.yoursite.com/page1.html
http://www.yoursite.com/page2.html
http://www.yoursite.com/page3.html
http://www.yoursite.com/dir/page1.html

Where I think the confusion stems, is that Yahoo! now allows you (via their submission page) to submit your feeds in a variety of formats (RSS 0.9, RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0 and Atom 0.3). The way this works is that their crawler will extract links and find pages not already discovered within your feeds.

These files will be in XML and if your feed contains a complete list of the URL’s you want indexed, then a text file is not required. However and if you want Yahoo! to know about all your pages, then a standard text file should be used, containing nothing more but a list of your URL’s, with one URL per line.

Hopefully and with Yahoo! now allowing the submission of feeds, it shouldn’t be long before you’re able to submit XML Sitemaps, just as you do with Google. In fact, submitting a XML Sitemap to Yahoo! may even work, although there is no proof to support this theory…

… In the meantime however (especially if your site is not feed enabled or if your feed does not contain all your site’s URL’s), it looks as though that you’ll have to continue to use a standard text file if you wish to submit a complete list of your site’s URL’s to Yahoo!

HD Plasmas on Lay-Away? You’re Kidding Me!

While browsing the internet for HD Plasma Televisions I stumbled on a website called MyHiDef.com. I noticed that they offered a lot of deals and services for HD products.

One thing that really caught my eye besides the great prices was a Layaway Option. This is something I could really use right now. I don’t want to use a credit card due to interest charges and with my credit this just wouldn’t work for me.

I tried the Buy it Now, Pay Later idea just to get shot down with a no. This option is nothing more then applying for credit and I don’t want to apply for any sort of credit right now…

I read the Layaway Agreement and decided to go for it. I thought why not, let’s see what happens. Especially since I’m not good at saving money and I really wanted a new HDTV. I put the amount necessary to hold my purchase for the 50″ Plasma TV Starter Special and proceeded to pay my monthly installments. The shipping and warranty cost was included with the Layaway, so no worrying there…

Wow, was I impressed. No problems and great customer service. They delivered and setup my television for me and gave me a training session on how to operate my new system which also included the Dazzle Photo Viewer, and a Gateway Surge Protection System.

I have to mention this about the company; included with your order is a 3 year warranty featuring in home service with no deductible. Also they don’t just offer HD Plasma TV’s for Layaway you can purchase other Bundle Deals using this option as well.

Now that I have told my friends and shared this information with you I’m sure that MyHiDef Layaway Option will really catch your eye too……I can definitely say I’m planning on making another purchase.

Google for Resellers: Leveling the Resell Playing Field

With so many people trying to make money on the web and so many products being sold with resell and master resell rights, it’s a wonder anyone can make any money at all at it!

Indeed, most people don’t.

Why?

Sometimes it’s because people get in on the tail end of the product being sold and start trying to resell it just as the original creator decides to start giving it away for free. Generally this is 3-4 months after the product debuts.

But lots of times people actually learn quickly about a new resale product, but don’t have a mailing list or website with lots of traffic to advertise the product to.

So what are you to do if you’re one of these folks? You use Google Adwords as your new best friend.

Notice that I said AdWORDS, not AdSENSE. What’s the difference? Adsense is the big thing those marketing gurus have recently been talking up. You know…make a web page specifically designed for a search term, put Google Adsense on that page, and make tons of money when people click on those ads. (Yeah, right, sure. They don’t happen to mention that you need *traffic* before you can get clicks.)

AdWords, on the other hand, are those ads themselves. Where YOU are the person paying every time someone clicks on one of them. And I have found them to be the #1 way to make money with short-term resell products if you don’t have a decent mailing list.

Steps and Rules of Thumb

Here are the steps and rules of thumb I use to achieve good to great profits on short-term sales items - those products that will be sold quickly then given away free within 3-4 months - practically every time.

#1 ~~ I do a Google search on the product name to see if the market is already saturated (not all ‘new’ products are actually new), to see if the product is already being given away free (most end up this way), and to see what the Google Adwords competition looks like.

If everybody and his brother are already selling or giving it away, I look for a new product.

#2 ~~ Assuming there’s an opportunity here, I use the Overture Keyword Bid Amounts Lookup Tool < http://www.pixelfast.com/overture/ > and FindWhat.com, as well as Google Adwords itself, to see what advertisers are paying for various search words and phrases, and compare the cost per click to the sale price of the item.

Rule of Thumb: I don’t spend more than 1/100th of the price of an item on a click.

That means a $10 item couldn’t cost more than $.10 a click or a $37 item couldn’t cost more than $.37 a click.

#3 ~~ I determine who my audience is and write my ads and choose my keywords accordingly. For example, a lot of products include resell or master resell rights. If you look at the sales web page included, you’ll see that is seen as a selling point. But I never mention that in my Google ads. Instead, I choose to sell to people for whom the product would be useful by itself. I’ve even rewritten the sales page copy to remove most resell rights information and instead emphasize the usefulness of the product itself. Plus, when I include bonuses, I only include those bonuses that enhance the product.

#4 ~~ I set an initial budget and time period that I will give the ad in which to make money. I know that I probably won’t get my ad worded perfectly right off and will need to tweak it before I start attracting the right type of buyer and start making sales. But I can’t tweak the ad until I start advertising and see the statistics that Google provides. Depending on the product price, I will give myself 2-3 weeks to maximize the ad.

Rule of Thumb: ALWAYS put the price of your product in your Google ad.

You don’t want just anyone clicking on your ad because each click costs you money. You want to let people know up front that you are selling something and for how much. They won’t click if they aren’t willing to spend that or if they don’t think they can get something for free.

#5 ~~ I always quit when I determine by results that the product is no longer selling sufficiently to justify my continuing to pay Google. I never assume that things will pick up after my cutoff point.

Rule of Thumb: Once I stop selling 2 items per week, I quit selling the item.

The first sale is to cover the price of the ads. The second sale is to cover other costs as well as give me a profit. If there’s no profit, there’s no point in advertising.

[By the way, you have the option of your ads showing up just on Google search results or also on people’s websites. I’ve found I generally do better just advertising on Google, but it depends on what you’re selling.]

Conclusion: It can be hard for people to quickly break into the reselling world, even with a great product, without a large mailing list or a website with lots of traffic. Using Google AdWords can seriously level the resell playing field and help *you* make a profit!

You’ve Got A New Website, But How Do You Get Folks to Look At It?

I took a look at a new Website recently in response to a request for a site review on one of my favorite forums. And, while the appearance was pleasing, there wasn’t really much there. Too often, new folks to the Internet marketing world make this crucial mistake. They think that if they build a stay at home job website, customers will automaically show up and start buying stuff. When those customers don’t materialize, the site owner often gives up and quits.

In order for any stay at home jobsite to attract quality visitors, there are some things that need to be done. In this article, I will give you a small list of objectives, along with brief hints on how to go about meeting them. If you follow through, your site will advance in the search engine rankings, and before you know it the visitors will be showing up faster than you can count them.

Search Engines Love Content

Involve yourself in an ongoing process of collecting and/or producing articles for inclusion on your site. There are many sources of articles on the Internet. Some of them charge a small fee, while others are free. Look for articles that are relevant to the subject of your site, and add them. If these articles are rich with the keywords that you wish to target, so much the better.

You can also write your own articles. This allows you to concentrate on the keywords that you wish to target, and establishes you as an expert in your field.

By adding your resource box, with your URL, to the end of your articles and then submitting them to other sites and Ezines, you can generate additional traffic to your site. More about this later.

Invite your visitors to submit articles to your site for publication. This helps to build visitor loyalty, because eveybody likes to see their name in print;)

Search Engines Love Links.

The second thing that you need to do is exchange links with other websites. Search Engines look to see how many links point to your site and use this information to gauge the importance of your site. The more links you have, the better, but look for links that add value for your visitors. Make sure that you link to quality sites that are somehow related to what your visitors are looking for. In this way, you will get traffic that is targeted to what you are trying to sell. This will increase your chances of making sales or signing up affiliates who have a good chance of being successful in your business.

There are two basic types of links; reciprocal links and one way links. Reciprocal links occur when you trade links with another website. These are important because not only do they help in your rankings, they also generate traffic from the sites that you link to. One way links are a bit different. These are links that point people to your site, but do not point your visitors away from your site. As a result, they are more valuable. Not too many webmasters are willing to give away one way links, but there are a couple of good techniques that you can use to get them.

1. Write articles and offer them for publication. You will be pleasantly surprised by the number of sites and Ezines that are looking for quality articles to use for content. By placing your resource box at the end of the article, and including a link to your site, you can generate dozens, if not hundreds of one way links to your site. To find sites that accept articles, simply do a search for ‘Free Website Content.’ You will find several good sites. Also think about joining the Directory of Ezines. Many of the publications listed there accept articles, and some of them will even invite you to write for them on a regular basis.

2. Visit several forums and bulletin boards that deal with stay at home jobs. Especially, those that are directly related to your field of expertise. Many of these allow you to include your URL in your signature block. By participating in these forums, you will be able to create many more one way links to your site. Just make sure that you offer sound advice, and make relevant posts. If you don’t, you could be considered a nuisance or worse, a spammer.

The addition of content in the form of articles and links to your site should be an ongoing process. If you concentrate on these two things and continually add to your site, you will not only move up in the search engine rankings, but you will end up with a site that has great value to your visitors. Add to your site every day. Remember, you are in competition with a lot of other related websites, and chances are, they are already be doing this.
